wildernesstales: (LOTR)
[personal profile] wildernesstales

Rating: G
Pairings: Glorfindel/Erestor
Summary: Glorfindel isn’t happy.  Even if he is spending more time with Erestor.
Warnings: None
Disclaimer:  As per usual, the good things in life are not mine to have, but belong to someone else... in this case, the great Mr Tolkien. I just borrow them every now and then :) And I promise to give them back… eventually!  And Dolraen is mine (those of you who remember the tagboard might remember him)
Author's Notes:  Written for [livejournal.com profile] aglarien1  who has been under the weather (understatement) and is sick of being sick.  I wanted to cheer her up, and hopefully she’ll manage enough computer time to read this.

“But I can’t…” Glorfindel struggled to sit up.
“Yes you can.” Erestor said firmly, pushing him back down gently.  “You need to rest and let your leg heal.  And that won’t happen if you insist on trying to do everything.”
“I’m not.” Glorfindel protested, trying to glare at Erestor.
“Of course not.” Erestor just smiled at the warrior and settled the pillows behind him more comfortably.  “You know that you can leave the guards in Dolraen’s hands.  He’s more than capable of keeping order while you stay off your feet.”
“I know… It’s just… I can’t do anything.” He sighed, leaning back against the pillows and staring at his leg.  His last patrol had ended rather unfortunately, with an orc managing to actually scare Asfaloth, and he had ended up catching his leg rather badly against a tree.  Making his way back to Imladris, Lord Elrond had declared his leg broken and set it in place, wrapping it securely in bandages.  Which meant that Glorfindel, warrior of Gondolin was confined to his bed.  Unless he wished to limp around Imladris.
“I know…” Erestor soothed, sitting on the edge of the bed and resting his hand over Glorfindel’s.  “I can keep you company for a while.” He promised, glancing over at the stack of books and scrolls he’d brought to their rooms so he could sit with Glorfindel.  Glorfindel just nodded, appreciative of the effort Erestor was making, but too annoyed with himself for such a mistake that resulted in his injury.

Erestor didn’t actually get any work done, but he didn’t mind.  They spent their time playing games and talking, something they didn’t always get a chance to do with their respective jobs taking up much of their time.

This continued for several days, until Glorfindel was beginning to go a little stir crazy, confined to his rooms.  Erestor asked Elrond to come and check on Glorfindel, hoping that he would deem him fit enough to begin to move around again.  He did.
“Finally.” Glorfindel sat up, eager to be moving again.
“Not so fast.” Elrond smiled.  “Don’t try too much too quickly.  The bone is still setting and will be for a while longer.”
“But I can still get up?” Glorfindel prompted, reminding Erestor of an elfling, eager to be out on his own.  Elrond obviously thought much the same, as he laughed and agreed with Glorfindel.
“Providing you take it easy.”

With the aid of a staff, Glorfindel was soon limping around Imladris, grateful to be back on his feet.
“You have no idea how glad I am.” He murmured to Erestor as they made their way slowly down a corridor towards the main hall.
“I can see how happy you are.” Erestor retorted, but he could.  The glow was back in Glorfindel’s eyes, something that he’d noticed was missing while the warrior was confined to his bed.
“It’s just so…” Glorfindel paused, struggling to find the words.  “Incapacitating.  And irritating that I can’t do what I want to.”
“I can only imagine.” Erestor nodded sympathetically.  They both enjoyed their work, even though it kept them away from one another at times, and the thought of not being able to do his normal job was not something Erestor wanted to think about.
“But at least this is a start.” Glorfindel indicated the staff.
“Means you can keep an eye on Dolraen and the rest of the guards.”
“Not that they really need keeping an eye on, I’m just too used to doing it.” Glorfindel admitted.  Erestor nodded.
“It must be hard, not being able to do what you normally do.”
“It was.  But at least now I can do something.  Even if I can’t actually go out on patrol.”
“You’re certainly not going out on patrol until that leg of yours has fully healed… sir.” Dolraen grinned as he held the door open for Glorfindel and Erestor.
“Wasn’t intending to.” Glorfindel replied airily, nodding as they stepped into the main hall.  “Was planning on send you out on all my patrols as well as yours.” Dolraen chuckled, following them in.
“It’s good to see you up and about again.” He gave Glorfindel a small bow and joined the rest of the warriors, while Glorfindel and Erestor made their way to the main table.

As the days and weeks passed, Glorfindel regained his strength, taking on more and more of his original duties.  His first patrol out was a short one, but as soon as he arrived back in the courtyard, a messenger was there to tell him that Lord Elrond wished to see him in the Healing Houses.  He rushed down there, wondering exactly what Elrond could want.

Only to see Erestor sitting on a bed, arm swathed in bandages.
