Disclaimer: As per usual, the good things in life are not mine to have, but belong to someone else... in this case Hasbro, Takara and IDW and anyone else I’ve forgotten…

Sunstreaker watched the shuttle crash into the ground. The rest of the other Autobots were occupied with the Decepticons, but Sunstreaker could only watch numbly as the shuttle crashed. He knew Prowl was on that shuttle. And he knew that there was no way the Decepticons could have gotten this far without subduing the Autobots on board. And to subdue Ironhide, Ratchet, Prowl and Brawn? That didn’t bode well. Transforming, Sunstreaker raced to the crash site. Someone had to check on their friends. He had to check on Prowl.
He braked hard, skidding to a stop as he reached the shuttle. It had landed in one piece. He could see the damage where the Decepticons had entered. He paused at the torn entrance, hesitating. He wanted to see if they were all right, but he wasn’t sure what he would find. His need to check on Prowl overwhelmed him, and he stepped on to the shuttle, picking his way through sparking wires and damaged walls. The sight he found when he stepped onto the main bridge was one that would remain burned into his memory banks.
He found Brawn first; the minibot taken down by a hit to the shoulder. He could see the burn marks on his back where he’d been executed.
Ratchet was next; his chestplating riddled with laserfire. He looked as though he’d taken every hit they’d fired and still fought back. Tough old medic.
Ironhide was… a mess. There was no other way of describing it. Sunstreaker averted his optics, fuel tanks rumbling uneasily. He stepped forward, finding the frame he was searching for. Finding and hating that he found all at the same time.
“Prowl.” He whispered the mech’s name, crumpling to his knees next to Prowl’s grey frame. “Prowl…” He reached out and stroked Prowl’s face. He would never have the chance now. Was it punishment for being so cowardly that he couldn’t admit his feelings to Prowl? He would never have the chance to tell Prowl he loved him. Never have the chance to pursue any sort of relationship with him. He should have said something earlier. When he first realised he was in love with Prowl. Even if he was in the brig at the time.
“I love you Prowl.” He murmured, resting his forehead on Prowl’s chevron.
Sideswipe found him like that hours later.
“Sunny?” His soft voice barely registered in Sunstreaker’s processor. Sideswipe made his way through the damaged shuttle, faceplates grim as he took in the devastation.
“Sunstreaker?” He knelt at Sunstreaker’s side, one hand hovering over his brother’s back. He could see how distraught Sunstreaker was, and didn’t want to make him jump.
“I’ve lost him Sides.” Sunstreaker murmured. “Before I could even tell him I loved him, I lost him.”
“I’m sorry, Sunny.” Sideswipe rested his hand on Sunstreaker’s back in a comforting gesture.
“Megatron’s going to pay for this.” Sunstreaker straighted, optics flaring white.
“Megatron’s already paid.” Sideswipe said quietly. “So did Optimus.”
“The war still goes on though.” Sunstreaker stood up. “I won’t rest until every Decepticon is deactivated.” He swore his revenge on those who had killed Prowl.
